Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine

Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine (HLJUCM) is located in Harbin a city which is known as “Ice city” for its long and cold winter. HLJUCM was founded in 1954, and was named as Heilongjiang College of Chinese Medicine. In 1996, HLJUCM was approved by the national ministry of education to rename as Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. In 2004, HLJUCM got the excellent result in the Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation from National Ministry of Education. In 2007 HLJUCM successfully passed the Authentication of the Specialty of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and was appointed to be the national clinical base of Chinese medicine in 2008. In 2009, HLJUCM was determined by Heilongjiang provincial government to be high level university for key construction and development. In 2010, HLJUCM successfully pass the TCM degree authentication from the Singapore TCM Practitioners Board. Now, HLJCUM has 3 mobile post-doctoral stations, 17 specialties authorized to award doctorate degree, 28 specialties authorized to award master degree and 18 specialties authorized to award bachelor degree. HLJUCM currently has 2449 fulltime faculty members and more than 14000 students.

In the several decades’ development, HLJUCM always pursues the principle “Make TCM finer, Make pharmacy specialty stronger and Make University bigger”. The TCM education of HLJUCM applies an education model of combining academic education and clinic practice in a certain college of HLJUCM which promotes the academic and practice Inheritance and innovation of TCM. Now the TCM specialty of HLJUCM is the national second-category featured construction specialty, and it is also the provincial key specialty. The acupuncture specialty is national first-category featured construction specialty.

The oversea student education program of HLJUCM was started in 1980s. For many years, HLJUCM has attached great importance to the international education, academic exchange and international cooperation of TCM. The oversea student scale of HLJUCM expands gradually with the development of the international education level. Now the oversea student source of HLJUCM covers Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania and Africa. The education level covers degree education and short-term training, and more than 5000 oversea students have successfully graduated from HLJUCM.

HLJUCM’s international exchange and cooperation also have made great achievements. Up to now HLJUCM has established education, medical and scientific research cooperation and exchange with 73 institutes from more than 30 countries including USA, UK, Japan, Canada, Russia, South Korea, Hungary, and Malaysia. At meanwhile HLJUCM has hold many international academic conferences including 7 sessions of “Sino-Russia pharmacy Forum”, 2 sessions of Sino-Hungary Bilateral medical academic seminar and the first Sino-German sleep research academic seminar etc. HLJUCM has joint-founded the world first Confucius institute for TCM, which is the first Confucius institute that has TCM degree education, and is one of the first group of TCM institutes that has the qualification to enroll Confucius institute scholarship student. For 2 consecutive years, the Confucius institute for TCM has been awarded “advanced Confucius institute”
